Hair, Hormones & What We Feel…Hair’s the Truth

Thrive Weekly Issue 28
Post-menopause, I’ve faced many surprises, but nothing rattled my confidence quite like noticing my hair thinning, especially at my temples. “Why”, I asked myself, “was this happening?” Here’s what I’ve learned.
Noticing The Changes

I’m a solopreneur, a mom, and I’ve crossed that post-menopausal threshold. Like so many women, however, I’ve noticed the changes, like the thinning hair, the shifting hormones, and the reality of how hard I’ve had to work all my life, but especially during and after menopause, to manage my weight.
Not ‘Just Hair’
And truth be told, this journey hasn’t just been physical. Hair loss shakes a woman’s confidence, her self-esteem, and yes, even intimacy if she’s in a committed relationship. This beautiful crown with which we were born is not “just hair.” It’s part of how we see ourselves when we look in the mirror, and how we feel when we step out into the world.

Science backs this up, too. A 2022 study published on PubMed found that more than half of postmenopausal women aged 50–65 showed signs of female pattern hair loss. Researchers noted that stress, nutrition, hormones, and weight can all make a difference in how severe the thinning becomes.
Feeling Empowered

Okay, that could sound discouraging to many, but for me, it feels empowering. Because if there are puzzle pieces, even the harder ones, then there are also ways to support myself with knowledge, compassion, and by taking decisive action.
That’s why I’m so grateful to be part of a global wellness community where breakthroughs are happening. I’ve recently started using a new hair and scalp health solution, with clean ingredients that are delivered to hair follicles through a one-of-a-kind technology, addressing challenges at the root. Taking these steps might seem over the top to many: whether it’s tackling my hair-thinning, my skin, or supporting my body’s ability to successfully fight oxidative stress and inflammation in general. The reality though, is that this passion isn’t about vanity. It is, in fact, my deep desire for a good quality of life as I age. Who wouldn’t want that…right?

Hang on though…I know I’m not alone in this. Have you noticed changes in your hair before, during, or after menopause? How has it affected your confidence, your self-expression, even your intimacy? Sharing our stories is how we remind
each other that we’re not walking this journey alone.
While you think about it, I’d love to share a few tips that can support you on your hair journey.
5 Tips for Caring For Your Hair As You Age
1️⃣ Nourish From Within – A balanced diet rich in protein, omega-3s, and antioxidants supports stronger, fuller hair.
2️⃣ Manage Stress & Sleep – Chronic stress and poor sleep disrupt hormones that affect hair growth. Small daily rituals for calm make a big difference.
3️⃣ Be Gentle – Switch to sulfate-free shampoos, avoid tight hairstyles, and minimize heat styling. Your strands are more fragile as you age.
4️⃣ Scalp Care = Hair Care – A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Gentle exfoliation and massage boost circulation.
5️⃣ Consider Clean Innovations – Today’s science offers breakthroughs (like Neumi’s HAIR with HydraStat tech) that target hair health at the root.
It’s your turn. Which ONE of these tips will you try this week?
